Skyline Socks Joins Community Celebration For Rainier Playfield, Play Area, And Basketball Courts

Posted on 17 August 2012

We were thrilled to join the Seattle Parks and Recreation, Brandon Roy Foundation and the Rainier Community Center Advisory Council at the celebration and opening of the new Rainier Playfield play area. The Rainier community gathered together to celebrate the gorgeous new field, baskeball court & play area. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, we were able to give back to all the kids who patiently waited  from the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club and the Rainier Eagles Football League.

The kids were extremely appreciative of the new socks, and the opening of the new fields couldn’t have come at a better time. Tough economic times have threatened the future of some Seattle-area youth football programs. Budget cuts have forced the city to increase field usage fees, resulting in some leagues having increased their registration fee, which meant fewer kids would have had the chance to play.

The newly renovated play area features new equipment, site improvements including picnic tables and barbecue grills, and improved site circulation and access.

The Brandon Roy Foundation generously donated to the renovated basketball courts with new lighting, composite surfacing, bleacher seating, padded backboard support posts, and new backboards. These improvements provide a safe and well-lit place for youth to learn and showcase their athletic skills, even on rainy days.

The event featured treats, hoops, play, socks and music provided by the talented Pasquale Santos. For more information about the park, check it out on the web at http://seattle.gov/parks/projects/rainier_pf/
